Information on Magazine Publishers


IPC Media 
IPC magazines are owned by Time Inc. UK (International Publishing Corporation). Time Inc. have a large portfolio selling over 350 million copies each year. IPC magazine was founded in 1963 when the IPC was created as a holding company for the Mirror newspaper group and a number of the UK’s biggest magazine publishers. IPC Media publishes magazines including Marie Claire, NME and What’s on TV. IPC increased profits by 23 percent in 2011 to £45.5 million, despite a revenue drop of 4 percent to £331 million for the year.


Bauer
Bauer Media Group is a large European-based media company, headquarter in Hamburg, Germany that manages a portfolio of more than 600 magazines. Bauer media has a workforce of approximately 11,000 employees in 17 countries. Bauer media publishes some of the biggest top selling Women’s Weekly’s such as Take a Break, That’s Life!, and Bella. They also publish well known women’s magazines which are, Spirit & Destiney, Fate & Fortune. Bauer also publish, TV Choice which is the UK’s biggest selling magazine, TV Guide, Wonderpedia, Over 25 puzzle magazines and Eat in. Beuer’s audience is mainly targeted at older adults because of the puzzle magazines and TV guide magazines.

Future PLC
Future PLC is a media company which was founded in 1985 by Chris Anderson. In 2006 it was ranked as the sixth-largest media corporation in the United Kingdom. It publishes more than 30 magazines in field such as video games, technology, films, photography and sport. Future is the official magazine company of two out of the three major games console manufactures such as Nintendo Magazine. The company also own the US Company Future US. Future PLC is the UK’s most popular technology news and has an online site too with more than 27 million users globally. They have an online audience of 8 million monthly users across its technology, games, films, music, photography and creative portfolio. In technology, Future PLC have a partnership with TechRadar, T3 and Gizmodo UK. These partnerships grow Future’s audience to a combined reach of over 15 million users. Future’s Games reach as the biggest in the UK. Some of the magazines that Future PLC publish are Guitarist, SFX, Total Guitar, Total Film, T3, Digital Camera, XBOX the official magazine, Play Station, Comic Heroes, CRIME, Computer Arts, Net, 3D World, Imagine FX, Edge, Games Master, PC Gamer, Computer Music, Future Music, Photo Plus, N Photo, Professional Photography, Practical Photoshop, Photography Week, Mac Format and Windows Help & Advice.  As you can tell Future PLC have a wide range of magazines which make Future PLC company extremely successful.  Future PLC’s has a variety of different audiences, for the photography magazines older people around 25+ may read these. The gaming magazines tend to be for younger people such as 17+. The target audience varies depending on the audience. But overall their audience is for creative people who enjoy and have hobbies to do with things like music, photography and Technology.

It is important that you show an understanding of the companies through research from various sources. This is something that needs to be addressed ASAP as if it was moderated, you coursework could be pulled out.
